Birmingham Welding

A wide variety of metal fabrication projects requires welding services. However, there are so many different methods of Birmingham welding, it can be hard to determine which method is best. The main two types are MIG and TIG welding.

MIG welding (metal inert gas) is where a metal wire is continuously put into the weld. The weld acts as a filler to help join two metal objects together. MIG welding is ideal for larger projects, it is more forgiving of mistakes compared to TIG welding. As MIG welding uses a filler material, it can often help complete welds of thicker metals in less time than a TIG weld.

TIG welding (tungsten inert gas) incorporates a tungsten electrode which lets a current through the metals being joined together. TIG is applied in both the welding of ferrous and non-ferrous metals with a range of thickness, that doesn’t exceed 8mm. Because this process is slower, high-quality welding is produced with the perfect definition in aluminium, carbon steel and stainless steel.

TIG welding is best suited with smaller projects including more-exotic metals such as gold, nickel, and brass. TIG welding requires precise control over the timing and pressure of the electric current. It is easier to use with thinner pieces of metal as the welding must be hot enough to form a bond together.
